SCORE: Northwood 14, Wheeling Jesuit 5

RECAP: Northwood uses huge seven run second inning to cruise to 14-5 win over Wheeling Jesuit.

GAME 1 NOTES

  • Wheeling Jesuit opened the scoring after scratching across a run in the home half of the first inning. The Timberwolves responded in a big way with seven runs in the top of the second, including a three run triple by Javier Martinez with the bases loaded.
  • Northwood continued to pour it on with three runs in the fourth, thanks to a Daniel Pulver two run homer and an RBI single to give the Timberwolves a commanding 10-1 advantage.
  • Wheeling Jesuit did come back with a run in the home half of the fourth, but Northwood continued to roll offensively, this time, it was a towering grand slam home run off the bat of Ryan McClelland that accounted for the four runs in the top of the sixth for Northwood and made the score 14-2.
  • The Cardinals added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh, making the final score 14-4 in favor of the Timberwolves in the first game of the double header.

GAME 1 NOTES

  • The nine run margin of victory matches the largest of the season for Northwood.
  • Tyler Jandron moves to 2-0 in his Northwood career and the Timberwolves are 2-0 in games Jandron has pitched.
  • The grand slam for Ryan McClelland is his third home run of the season and first grand slam of the year.
  • David Vinsky was a homerun away from hitting for the cycle, the freshman has begun his Northwood career hitting an impressive .696 (16 –23).
  • The home run for Pulver was his first of the season and fourth of his career.
  • This was the third time of the season that Northwood never trailed in a game. Three of the Timberwolves first four wins, they have never trailed in the game.

RECAP: Wheeling Jesuit's bats come alive late as the Cardinals bounce back to split the doubleheader against Northwood, 10-4.  

GAME 2 NOTES

  • Northwood opened the scoring in the bottom of the first after Connor Foley doubled to lead off the inning and the next batter, David Vinsky, singled up the middle scoring Foley from second.
  • The game would remain scoreless through the fifth as both pitchers settled in nicely and shut down the opposing offenses. Logan Meadors was strong on the hill for Northwood holding the Cardinals scoreless through five innings.
  • In the top of the sixth however, Wheeling Jesuit's offense woke up striking for two to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Northwood responded immediately with a run in the home half of the frame on a Ryan McClelland double down the left field line that scored Daniel Pulver.
  • In the top of the seventh, the Cardinals plated on a run followed by a five spot in the top of the eighth after a couple of two out hits, including a two run triple by Drake May to grab a 8-2 lead over Northwood.
  • The Timberwolves attempted to chip away at the large lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth to cut the lead to 8-4, but the lead was too large to overcome as Wheeling Jesuit added a pair in the top of the ninth and earned the 10-4 victory.

  • The win is the first of the season for Wheeling Jesuit University.
  • After holding Wheeling Jesuit scoreless through five innings, the Cardinals scored runs in each of the final four innings.
  • David Vinsky was on base all 8 plate appearances in the double header. The freshman from Farmington Hills, Mich. is off to a tremendous start to his Northwood career after going 7-8 with four doubles on the day. Vinsky is now hitting .704 (19-27).
