Vinsky Finishes 2017 Season With Most Hits and Doubles In All Of Division II

MIDLAND, MICH. – David Vinsky, a freshman outfielder on the Northwood University baseball team, led all of Division II in hits and doubles for the 2017 season. Vinsky finished the season with a school record 109 hits and 27 doubles.

The 109 hits are the 18th most all time in the history of NCAA Division II baseball. Vinsky is just the second freshman ever to lead the country in hits and the first since Kerry Dineen from the University of San Diego in 1971. Furthermore, Vinsky is just the second freshman to ever lead all of Division II in doubles and first since Wayne Politelli from Eckerd College in 1973.

Prior to this season, no player in Northwood program history had ever led the country in any statistical category.

Along with leading all of Division II in hits and doubles, Vinsky also finished the season second in the country in batting average at .449.

The impressive accomplishments for Vinsky add to an already incredible season that includes being named the "Freshman of the Year" in the GLIAC, earning First Team All-American Honors, as well as being named a National Player of the Year nominee.

In addition to Vinsky leading the country in hits and doubles, three other Timberwolves ranked in the top 5 nationally in statistical categories.

Connor Foley finished with the third most runs scored in all of division II with 74, and was fifth in the country in hits with 93. Tyler Jandron compiled the second most wins for a pitcher in the country with 12, while Javier Martinez ranked fourth in the nation in sacrifice flies with nine on the season.

Jandron and Foley earned second and third team All-American honors respectively. Jandron was named the "Pitcher of the Year" in both the GLIAC and the Midwest Region, while Foley also earned a third team Academic All-American selection.

The individual statistical achievements come on the heels of the most successful season in Northwood baseball history. The 2017 campaign included the school's first ever GLIAC regular season championship, GLIAC tournament title, a school record for wins, a top ten national ranking, and a #1 seed in the Midwest Region.
