RECAP: Northwood earns a 9-3 victory over Wayne State Friday afternoon (April 27).

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Northwood got things rolling in the bottom of the second inning, starting with an RBI single by Keaton Sackett. A WSU error on the play allowed the Timberwolves to go up 2-0.
  • Later in the inning, Ryan McClelland had an RBI single, which was followed by a two-run single by Javier Martinez to push the Northwood lead to 5-0.
  • Wayne State responded with three unearned runs in the fourth inning, but NU got one back in the bottom of the inning on a Martinez run-scoring single to make the score 6-3.
  • The Timberwolves extended their lead in the fifth inning with a pair of runs thanks to a Sackett sacrifice fly and a Kyle Ziegler RBI single. That sent the game to the sixth inning with Northwood on top 8-3.
  • The final run of the game came in the sixth on a bases loaded walk by Brian Dombrowski.
  • NU starting pitcher Jake Gross had his best outing of the season, allowing three unearned runs in eight innings. He gave up four hits and three walks while striking out eight.
