Windy Conditions Lead To Wild 21-19 Loss For Baseball At Purdue Northwest

RECAP: Windy conditions lead to a wild 21-19 loss for Northwood baseball at Purdue Northwest Friday afternoon (April 14). 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • The Timberwolves got the offense going right away thanks to a Joey Johnston two run homer in the top of the first inning.
  • Purdue Northwest responded in a big way in the bottom of the first, bringing home eight runs. The Pride had eight hits and the Timberwolves committed two errors.
  • PNW put up two more runs in the second to make the score 10-2.
  • Northwood responded in the top of the third with three runs, one coming on a Johnston RBI single and two more scoring via error.
  • The Pride got one in the bottom of the third to put the score at 11-5.
  • Jacob Rybicki put together a three-run rally for Northwood in the top of the fourth, bringing home two on a triple before stealing home to get within three at 11-8.
  • Purdue Northwest scored one in the bottom of the fourth to get the lead back to four.
  • Northwood came right back with a Myles Beale two-run homer to make the score 12-10.
  • The Pride came up with another big frame in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs.
  • Ben Clark plated a pair in the top of the sixth on a single to get the Timberwolves within six at 17-12.
  • Purdue Northwest hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to go up by 10 at 21-12.
  • Northwood did not go away, putting up five runs in the top of the eighth. Ben Clark started the rally with an RBI single.
  • David Jeffers brought home a run with a single, which was followed by an RBI fielder's choice by Rybicki.
  • Johnston then brought home another with a bases loaded walk. Then Matt Magno had an RBI single to send the game to the ninth with the score 21-17.
  • Northwood nearly completed the comeback victory in the ninth, bringing home runs on a Ben Clark RBI single and a Johnston bases-loaded walk to make the score 21-19.
  • NU had the tying run on base when the game ended.
