RECAP: Northwood baseball splits twin bill at Purdue Northwest Friday (April 15), with the Timberwolves dropping a 2-0 contest in game one before responding with an emphatic 18-0 victory in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • NU loaded the bases in the top of the third, but they were unable to push any runs across. 
  • The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning. The Pride scored the first run of the game to take the 1-0 lead.
  • PNW added another run in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead.
  • The Timberwolves had chances throughout the game, leaving six runners on base. But NU was unable to get on the board, giving the win to Purdue Northwest.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • NU got the scoring started in the top of the fourth. Matt Magno walked and was brought home on a dropped fly ball by the Pride.
  • Khale Showers added an RBI single up the middle to score Myles Beale and give the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead.
  • The Timberwolves added three runs in the top of the fifth. A 2-RBI single by Joey Johnston through the right side scored David Jeffers and Carson Longstreth.
  • Magno added an RBI single of his own to bring home Johnston and make the score 5-0.
  • A Jeffers RBI double to left center brought home Longstreth in the top of the sixth, beginning a seven-run inning for the Timberwolves.
  • An RBI single to left field by Ben Clark scored Jeffers, followed by a Rhett Evans sacrifice fly.
  • A Beale two-run triple to right field drove in Magno and Johnston. Showers added an RBI single to keep the NU offense rolling.
  • Alex Jarboe finished off the inning with an RBI triple of his own, giving the Timberwolves the 12-0 advantage.
  • With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh, Beale walked to score Evan Wiegand and put NU up 13-0.
  • Maalik Houston made the score 14-0 in the top of the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
  • Camden Fisher came through with a big swing in the eighth, connecting on a three-run homer to push the lead to 17-0.
  • Houston added a bases loaded walk in the top of the ninth to round out the scoring.
