Baseball Earns 9-7 Win At Purdue Northwest To Close Series

RECAP: Northwood baseball earns a 9-7 win over Purdue Northwest Saturday afternoon (April 16) to split the four-game series.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • A strong start to the game put the Timberwolves up 3-0 in the top of the first. Matt Magno got the bats going with an RBI double to right center
  • Rhett Evans drove in Magno with an RBI single.
  • The Timberwolves rounded out the scoring in the inning by taking advantage of a dropped fly by PNW.
  • The Pride added one run each in the third and fourth innings to make the score 3-2.
  • E.J. Clark extended the lead to 6-2 for the Timberwolves with a 3-run home run to right field.
  • A ground-rule double by Khale Showers brought home Rhett Evans and Joey Johnston, putting NU up 8-2.
  • PNW responded in the bottom of the sixth, plating four runs to trail 8-6.
  • The Pride plated a run in the bottom of the seventh to get within one.
  • A Showers RBI single scored Malik Houston to give the Timberwolves the 9-7 advantage in the top of the eighth.
  • Jake Jekielek finished the game strong on the mound to earn the save, holding the Pride off the board over the final 2 1/3 innings.
