Baseball Drops Wild 21-15 Contest To Wayne State In 10 Innings

GAME HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • Wayne State scored five unearned runs on two Northwood errors to take the 6-0 lead in the top of the third.
  • WSU added two more in the top of the fifth to make it 8-0.
  • Joey Johnston hit a double to right center in the bottom of the fifth, driving in two runs to cut into the Wayne State lead.
  • The Warriors pushed the lead to 11-2 in the sixth.
  • NU began to comeback with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning, starting with an RBI single by Jacob Rybicki.
  • Blake Salamon followed with a 2-run double to right field to make it 11-5.
  • NU continued to chip away at the lead in the bottom of the seventh. A Myles Beale RBI single drove in Johnston to put the score at 11-6.
  • The Timberwolves did have the loading the bases with one out in the inning but were unable to capitalize further.
  • Northwood capped its comeback in the eighth, starting with a WSU wild pitch that brought home Jeffers to make the score 11-7.
  • Beale then came through with a two-RBI triple with two outs to get Northwood within 11-9.
  • Khale Showers kept the momentum going, hitting his third homerun of the weekend with a 2-run shot to left field. This tied the game at 11-11 after NU was down by nine in starting the bottom of the sixth.
  • Neither team scored a run in the ninth, taking the game to extra innings.
  • Wayne State got some big hits and took advantage of NU miscues in the 10th inning, bringing home 10 runs to go back on top 21-11.
  • The Timberwolves responded with four runs in the bottom of the 10th thanks to two-run homers from Rhett Evans and Rybicki.
  • Rybicki's homer was the last scoring play of the game, giving the win to the Warriors.
