RECAP: Baseball rides strong pitching to a 5-2 win over Saginaw Valley to open a four-game series Friday (May 6).
GAME HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)
- The Cardinals scored two unearned runs in the top of the first to take the early lead on one hit and a pair of Northwood errors.
- Myles Beale drove home Joey Johnston with an RBI single to cut into the SVSU lead and make the score 2-1 after one inning.
- The Timberwolves went up 3-2 in the bottom of the third. Beale added another RBI on a fielder's choice while Khale Showers also scored on a throwing error.
- A bases-loaded walk by Matt Mango scored Johnston to put NU up 4-2 in the seventh.
- Jacob Rybicki brought home Evan Weigand in the eighth with a sacrifice fly to make the final score 5-2.
- The story of the game was the Northwood pitching. After allowing a one-out single in the first inning, the Timberwolves did not give up another hit the rest of the game. Derek Clark tossed three one-hit innings before Cam Schuelke threw six no-hit innings to finish out the win.
