Baseball Loses Pair To End Season At NCAA Regional

RECAP: Northwood Baseball sees its season come to an end with a pair of losses at the NCAA Regional Tournament Friday (May 20), dropping a tough 8-7 contest in 11 innings before falling 10-4 to Quincy.

DAVENPORT HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • Northwood started the game fast in the bottom of the first, bringing home three on a home run from Rhett Evans.
  • The Panthers got one back in the top of the second to make the score 3-1.
  • Matt Magno extended the lead in the third with a two-run double to get the lead to 5-1.
  • The Panthers began their comeback in the fifth, bringing home three runs to get within one.
  • The Timberwolves bounced back with a run in the bottom of the fifth on an unusual play. Evans was on first when there was a wild pitch. When Evans attempted to reach third on the play, the DU catcher threw the ball away, allowing a run to score.
  • Northwood made it 7-4 in the sixth thanks to a Joey Johnston RBI single.
  • Davenport got within two in the eighth to make the score 7-5.
  • The Panthers then came up big in the ninth, scoring a pair to make the score 7-7.
  • NU got the first two runners on in the bottom of the inning but were unable to bring home the winning run
  • The score remained 7-7 until the 11th, when the Panthers registered back-to-back two-out doubles to go up 8-7.
  • Northwood got a runner on base in the bottom of the inning but were unable to extend the game, giving the Panthers the comeback win.

  • Quincy got on the board in the top of the first with a single run for the early lead.
  • The key inning of the game was the second, when the Hawks offense got rolling. They scored nine runs, sending 14 men to the plate and hitting for the cycle in the inning.
  • Northwood got on the board in the fifth on a two-out triple by David Jeffers to make the score 10-1.
  • NU added another run in the sixth on a Myles Beale RBI single to get the Timberwolves within eight.
  • The Timberwolves put two more on the board in the eighth thanks to a two-run pinch-hit single by E.J. Clark.
  • Northwood had a chance to add more in the eighth, having two runners on with two runs in and nobody out. But the Hawks got out of the frame without any more damage, sending the game to the final inning with the score 10-4.
