RECAP: Northwood baseball earned an 11-3 win over Hawaii Pacific Sunday (February 19) before game two was suspended due to rain with NU leading 9-6 in the sixth inning.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • Northwood got off to a great start in the game, as Jacob Rybicki led off with his first home run of the season to give the Timberwolves an early lead.
  • HPU came back with a run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the score.
  • Rybicki put Northwood back on top in the third with an RBI single.
  • The Sharks came right back in the bottom of the third with a solo homer to tie the score at 2-2.
  • Northwood broke the game open in the fourth inning, starting with a Blake Salamon RBI double to make the score 3-2.
  • Ben Clark then brought home Salamon with a single to get the NU lead to 4-2.
  • Rybicki plated his third RBI of the game with a single, which was followed by a run-scoring single by Matt Magno that made the score 6-2.
  • Joey Johnston rounded out the five-run inning with a RBI single to put the Timberwolves on top 7-2.
  • After Hawaii Pacific got one back in the fifth, Northwood made the score 8-3 when Magno came home on a passed ball in the top of the sixth.
  • The Timberwolves plated two runs in the seventh thanks to run-scoring singles by Rybicki and Magno, pushing the NU lead to 10-3.
  • Rybicki finished off his huge game with another home run in the ninth to round out the scoring at 11-3.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • Northwood wasted no time getting rolling in game two. Back-to-back doubles from Rybicki and Magno put the Timberwolves on top 1-0.
  • Joey Johnston followed with a triple to bring home Magno to make the score 2-0.
  • Rhett Evans' RBI single gave Northwood a 3-0 advantage.
  • NU finished off the first with a two-run single to give Northwood a 5-0 lead after a half inning.
  • The Sharks responded in the bottom of the second inning, plating six runs on four hits and three walks to take the lead 6-5 heading to the third.
  • Northwood tied the game in the top of the third when Evans scored on a passed ball.
  • Freshman Caden Duryea put Northwood back on top with a two-run double that made the score 8-6.
  • Eric Weigand drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth for the Timberwolves gave Northwood a 9-6 lead.
  • That is where the score remained in the bottom of the fifth when rain suspended the remainder of the contest.
