Baseball Extends Winning Streak To 11 With Doubleheader Sweep Over Findlay

RECAP: Northwood extends its winning streak to 11 games with a pair of wins over Findlay Sunday (April 2), taking game one 11-4 before earning a 10-5 victory in game two. 

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Northwood offense was ignited in the bottom of the second inning with back-to-back solo homeruns by Myles Beale and Rhett Evans, giving the Timberwolves an early 2-0 advantage.
  • The Oilers responded in the top of the third, plating three runs with three hits to take the 3-2 lead.
  • An RBI single through the right side from Beale scored Blake Salamon to even the score in the bottom of the fourth.
  • A big sixth inning put Northwood back on top. Salamon led off the inning in style with a solo shot to left field.
  • Alex Cole added an RBI single to plate Evans. A bases-loaded walk by Jacob Rybicki and a sacrifice fly from Joey Johnston added two more runs for NU to round out the scoring in the inning to make the score 7-3.
  • Northwood added two runs on two hits in the seventh. Cole picked up another RBI with a single to left field. Evans then reached home on a sacrifice fly from Ben Clark to extend the NU lead to 9-3.
  • Findlay added a homerun in the top of the eighth to put the score at 9-4.
  • Salamon hit his second bomb of the day to start the bottom of the eighth inning. His two-run homer put Northwood up 11-3, proving to be the final score of the contest.

  • In his first start since setting the Northwood school record for strikeouts in a career, Derek Clark reached the 200 strikeout milestone for his career. He now has 206 for his career.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • Matt Magno started the scoring for the Timberwolves with an RBI double. Salamon followed with an RBI single to score Magno and take the 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
  • The Northwood offense exploded in the bottom of the second for five runs on five hits. David Jeffers scored Alex Cole with an RBI single for the first run of the inning. Jacob Rybicki followed up with a big hit of his own, tripling to right field to bring Jeffers home.
  • An RBI single from Ben Clark scored the third run of the inning, before Magno brought him in with a 2-run home run to left field to push the lead to 7-0. 
  • The Oilers got on the board with a two-run home run in the top of the third.
  • NU added one run in the bottom of the fourth with a Magno RBI double down the left field line, putting the score at 8-2.
  • Findlay responded in the top of the fifth, making the score 8-5 with an RBI groundout and two-run homerun.
  • A Rybicki two-run shot to center field lifted the Northwood advantage in the bottom of the sixth inning.
  • The Timberwolves went on to shut down the Oilers in the top of the seventh to earn the 10-5 victory.
