Baseball Moves to 15-1 In The G-MAC With Sweep Over Hillsdale

RECAP: Northwood takes two against Hillsdale to win the series Saturday afternoon (April 8), improving to 15-1 in conference play.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • The Timberwolves scored their first run of the contest in the bottom of the third. An RBI double by Evan Weigand drove in Jacob Rybicki to put NU up 1-0.
  • The Chargers responded with two runs on four hits to take the 2-1 advantage in the top of the fourth.
  • Blake Salamon came up clutch in the bottom of the sixth, tying the game with his G-MAC leading 12th home run of the season.
  • Jake Jekielek then pitched a 1-2-3 inning to keep the Chargers off the board in the top of the seventh, setting up an exciting end to the contest.  
  • Joey Johnston began the inning with a single, followed by the Chargers choosing to intentionally walk Rybicki. A fielder's choice advanced Johnston to third with two outs.
  • Down to the final out and with an 0-2 count, Matt Magno delivered a walk-off RBI single up the middle to drive in the winning run to give Northwood a 3-2 victory.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • NU went up 1-0 in the bottom of the second as David Jeffers drove in Rhett Evans with a single to left field.
  • Hillsdale used three hits in the top of the seventh to plate their first run, tying the game at 1-1 with an RBI single.  
  • The bottom of the eighth saw the Timberwolves reclaim the lead. Matt Magno singled to center field and advanced on a groundout. Myles Beale connected on a hard-hit ball to left which was dropped, sending Magno home for the 2-1 lead.
  • The Chargers placed runners on first and second in the top of the ninth, but were unable to score the tying run.
