RECAP: Northwood earns a pair of hard-fought wins at Malone Friday (April 14), taking game one 3-2 before winning game two 4-2.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • Malone manufactured a run in the third, combining a single, a sacrifice bunt, and a two-out single to make the score 1-0.
  • Northwood scored all three of their runs in the fifth, getting going on a Joey Johnston two-run single.
  • Matt Magno then brought home Johnston with a double to push the NU advantage to 3-1.
  • The score remained 3-1 until the ninth, when Malone led off the inning with a solo home run.
  • Derek Clark responded to allowing the solo homer, retiring the final three batters to close out the complete game victory.

  • Clark's win was the 20th of his career. He is the second pitcher in school history to have 20 wins for his career, joining Tyler Jandron (21).
  • Clark currently leads the G-MAC in wins (7) and innings pitched (67 2/3) and ranks second in the conference in ERA (2.26) and opposing batting average (.199).

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • NU went up 1-0 in the top of the first, Jacob Rybicki led the game off with a triple and was brought home by a Magno RBI single.
  • In the top of the second, Rybicki then made it 2-0 with an RBI single in that brought home Rhett Evans.
  • Malone got one back in the bottom of the third to make the score 2-1.
  • Freshman Caden Duryea came through in the top of the seventh in a pinch-hitting role. His two-run single to center got the advantage up to three at 4-1.
  • Malone did not go away in the bottom of the seventh, starting the inning with a walk and a double. The Pioneers did push home a run to get within two and had the tying run on base before Jake Carroll struck out the final two batters to close out the victory.
