RECAP: Northwood baseball drops a high-scoring contest at Central Michigan Tuesday (April 18), falling 23-13 to the Chippewas.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • CMU got their offense going early, hitting a three-run homer in the bottom of the first to take an early lead.
  • Northwood responded with a big second inning, which got going on a David Jeffers RBI single.
  • Joey Johnston followed with double to bring home Jeffers, which was followed by a two-run double by Jacob Rybicki to give Northwood a 4-3 lead.
  • Central Michigan came right back in the bottom of the second with four runs to go back on top 7-4.
  • NU continued the fast start for the offenses in the top of the third. Rhett Evans made the score 7-5 with an RBI single.
  • Johnston then cut the lead to one with a RBI single.
  • Rybicki tied the game with another single that brought home Evans.
  • Caden Duryea put the Timberwolves back on top with an run-scoring single, which was followed by another run coming home on an error.
  • Blake Salamon finished off the six-run third with an RBI single that put the Timberwolves on top 10-7.
  • The Chippewas bounced back once again in the bottom of the third, scoring five runs to go back on top 12-10.
  • Rybicki earned his fourth RBI of the day with an RBI single in the fourth that got the Timberwolves within one.
  • CMU got one right back in the fourth to get their advantage back up to 13-11.
  • The fifth and sixth innings were key in the game, as the Chippewas scored three in the fifth and one in the sixth while holding the Timberwolves off the board to make the score 17-11.
  • Northwood got one back in the seventh on a double play, cutting the CMU lead down to 17-12.
  • Central Michigan put the game away in the eighth, scoring six runs to get the score to 23-12.
  • Carson Longstreth rounded out the scoring in the game in the top of the ninth with a solo home run for the Timberwolves.
