Baseball Takes Pair Versus Lake Erie To Take G-MAC Regular Season Title Outright

RECAP: Baseball takes Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season title outright with pair of wins over Lake Erie Friday (May 5), taking game one 8-1 before winning game two 12-2.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • Two Northwood errors in the top of the first allowed the Storm to plate the opening run of the contest.
  • In the bottom of the third, Myles Beale delivered an RBI single to left field to even the score.
  • With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, the Timberwolves took advantage of a throwing error to plate two unearned runs.
  • Joey Johnston added a sacrifice fly to drive in Carson Longstreth and take the 4-1 lead.
  • NU drove in four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth. With loaded bases, Alex Cole hit a chopper to right field to drive in two runs.
  • Longstreth added a deep double to left field to bring in two more, pushing the lead to 8-1.
  • Northwood starter Jayden Dentler tossed a complete game to earn the win and clinch the outright regular season title.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (SCHEDULE FOR NINE INNINGS)

  • With three straight walks from Joey Johnston, Jacob Rybicki, and Myles Beale, Northwood loaded the bases in the bottom of the third. Matt Magno delivered a single to center field to plate two runs.
  • Beale then reached home on a groundout to make the score 3-0.
  • An RBI single up the middle for Lake Erie put the score at 3-1 in the top of the fourth.
  • Alex Cole led off the fourth inning with a single to right field. Caden Duryea  then drove him in with a double down the left field line.
  • A bunt single by David Jeffers advanced Duryea to third, who then reached home with an RBI single from Joey Johnston.
  • Jeffers reached home on a wild pitch, followed by Johnston reaching home on an error by the pitcher to make it four runs in the inning for NU, extending their lead to 7-1.  
  • The top of the fifth saw Lake Erie add one run in the top of the fifth with an RBI single.
  • Northwood added two runs on a wild pitch and an RBI groundout from Joey Johnston to make the score 9-2 NU in the fifth.
  • To activate the final game run rule, the Timberwolves plated three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Duryea started the scoring with an RBI double to plate Cole.
  • Jeffers brought home Duryea with a single up the middle to get Northwood within one of ending the game.
  • Malik Houston stepped up to the plate to pinch hit and delivered an RBI single to right field to give NU the series sweep over Lake Erie.
