RECAP: Top-seeded Northwood baseball advanced to the finals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament Friday (May 12) after a 1-1 day, falling to No. 7 Ohio Dominican 5-1 before earning an 8-3 win over fourth-seeded Findlay.

OHIO DOMINICAN HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • Northwood got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning, thanks to Blake Salamon. He added to his school-record home run total with a solo shot to right field to put NU on top 1-0.
  • Ohio Dominican had two outs and nobody on in the fifth when the put together a walk and a two-run homer to go on top 2-1.
  • The score remained that way until the eighth, when the Panthers came through with another two-out home run. The three-run shot put ODU on top 5-1.

NORTHWOOD NOTES

  • Salamon's home run gave Northwood 60 for the season, which matches the program record for home runs in a season. The 2021 team also connected on 60 home runs.
  • The loss snapped Northwood's nine game winning streak, its second longest of the season. The Timberwolves won 15 straight from March 16-April 7.

FINDLAY HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • After the offense was held in check by Ohio Dominican earlier in the day, Northwood got going early. After a leadoff double by Rybicki, he later scored on a Salamon RBI groundout.
  • With two outs in the first, Rhett Evans made the score 2-0 with an RBI single.
  • Northwood kept the momentum going into the second inning, starting with a run-scoring double by Rybicki to make the score 3-0.
  • Myles Beale then earned an RBI on an error to get the lead to four.
  • Salamon capped the big second inning with a two-run single to make the score 6-0 after two innings.
  • The Oilers got on the board in the top of the third with a single run to get within five.
  • Joey Johnston got that run back in the bottom of the third with an RBI single.
  • Findlay scored another run in the fourth, making the score 7-2.
  • Ben Clark came through with an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to get the lead back up to six at 8-2.
  • That is where the score remained until the ninth when the Oilers pushed across one.
  • Kendall Anthes started for Northwood and put forth a big effort for the Timberwolves, going 8 2/3 innings while throwing 137 pitches.
  • Hunter McShane came in to retire the final batter of the game to finish off the victory.

  • NU improved to 5-0 on the season against Findlay.
