Baseball Ends Historic Season With Loss At Quincy In NCAA Regional Tournament

RECAP:  One of the best seasons in Northwood University baseball history came to a close in an 9-0 loss to Quincy Saturday afternoon (May 20).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • The key part of the game came right away in the bottom of the first, as the Hawks connected on a two-run home run and a grand slam in the opening inning to go up 6-0.
  • Northwood settled down after that, as the score remained 6-0 into the sixth when Quincy plated a pair.
  • The Hawks then added a single run in the eighth to close out the scoring.
  • NU, which had only been shutout once this season, was unable to get its offense going in the game, managing just five hits (one extra base hit) and two walks for the game.

NORTHWOOD NOTES

  • Jacob Rybicki claimed his 200th hit of his career in the game. He is the fifth player in program history to reach the 200 hit milestone.
  • Quincy finished the game with three extra base hits – one double and two home runs.  All three of those extra base hits occurred in the opening inning.
  • Quincy has now hit 130 home runs as a team this season, the most in the country and the second most in the history of Division II baseball. The all-time record for homers in a year is 131 set by West Georgia in 1998.
  • The Timberwolves finished the season with 19 losses – 10 of the 19 losses came against Quincy (six) and Ohio Dominican (four).
