Baseball Earns Doubleheader Sweep Over Malone

RECAP: Northwood baseball earns a pair of wins over Malone Thursday (May 2), earning a 4-3 comeback win in game one before posting a 7-1 victory in game two.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

• After three scoreless innings to begin the game, Malone's offense came through with three runs to go up 3-0 in the fourth.
• The score remained at 3-0 until the bottom of the sixth. Matt Magno got the Timberwolves on the board with a two-out RBI double to left field to score Joey Johnston and make the score 3-1.
• In the following inning, Ben Clark added a sacrifice fly to plate Drew Charters that cut the advantage to 3-2.
• Still trailing in the top of the eighth inning, Blake Salamon was up to bat with Magno on second and Logan Voth on third with two outs. Salamon's clutch single up the middle drove in two runs as the Timberwolves took their first lead of the contest, 4-3.
• Jake Jekielek held Malone to just a walk in the top of the ninth, as the Timberwolves earned the win in the opening game of the series.

• The Timberwolves continued their momentum into the bottom of the first inning in game two. Magno began the scoring with an RBI single to left field, driving in Voth.
• Beale added a single to right field to score Salamon for the Timberwolves to go up 2-0 in the first.
• Beale extended the NU lead with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the third.
• A two-run double to right center by Alex Cole plated Charters and Salamon as Northwood extended their lead to 5-0.
• The Pioneers got on board with one run in the top of the fourth that made the score 5-1.
• Northwood pushed their advantage to 6-1 as Ben Narr stole third and then scored on a throwing error for an unearned run in the fourth.
• Joey Johnston capped the scoring with an RBI single up the middle to make the final 7-1.
