Bio

Brad Baldwin became the ninth head coach in history of the Northwood University baseball program in the summer of 2023.

He replaced Jake Sabol, who was named Head Coach at Central Michigan.

Baldwin joined the Northwood University baseball coaching staff in the fall of 2019. Baldwin has worked extensively with the infielders and hitters while being heavily involved in recruiting. He also served as the Athletic Liaison between athletics and admissions at Northwood.

In his four seasons at Northwood, NU has gone 107-69-1 overall. The Timberwolves have reached the NCAA Regionals in each of his three full seasons on the coaching staff.

Northwood had one of the best seasons in program history in 2023, ending the year 42-19 overall and 27-5 in their first season in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. The Timberwolves won the regular season championship by five games and went on to take home the G-MAC Tournament title as well. Northwood earned its sixth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and picked up a memorable 13-11 opening round victory over Wayne State. Northwood earned a school-record 13 All-Conference honorees as well as four All-Region performers. Derek Clark was named an All-American by four different organizations.

The Timberwolves turned in another successful season in 2022, going 31-23-1 overall and 15-9 in the GLIAC. Northwood was ranked No. 1 in the Midwest region in the opening poll from the NCAA and spent a pair of weeks in the top position. NU reached the NCAA Regionals and earned a dramatic 10-5 comeback win over Quincy in the opening round. Northwood had three athletes earn All-Region and nine players claim All-GLIAC honors including GLIAC Freshman Player of the Year, Myles Beale, and GLIAC Freshman Pitcher of the Year, Jayden Dentler.

Picked to finish sixth in the GLIAC Preseason poll, Northwood went 29-17 overall, 18-10 in the GLIAC in 2021. NU finished one game out of first in the conference standings and reached the semifinals of the Midwest Regionals. The team set a school record with 60 home runs while finishing the season with the fourth-highest win percentage all-time at Northwood.

Before coming to Northwood, Baldwin spent the 2018-19 season at Ashland University. During his one season at Ashland, Baldwin assisted ABCA Hall of Fame coach, John Schaly, where he worked primarily with the hitters and defense. He helped the Eagles win both the GLIAC regular season and tournament championships for the first time in program history. The Eagles were also Midwest Regional champions and made a Division II World Series appearance for the first time in 11 years. Ashland also set a program record for most consecutive wins, 17, and tying the program record of 48 wins in a season. The Eagles finished the 2019 season ranked fifth nationally. He helped coach three First Team All-GLIAC selections, as well as a Second-Team selection. Of those All-GLIAC selections, one was named to a Midwest Regional team.

Baldwin played at Wayne State University, where he was a four-year letter winner. During his time at Wayne, Brad led the team in batting average for three straight seasons from 2015-2017.  He was a three-time First Team All-GLIAC selection, from 2016-2018 at second base, and was a First Team All-Midwest Region selection in 2017. He was also a finalist for the Josh Willingham Award in 2017, which is a Division II MVP award for all-around achievements in academics, athletics, and community service. During that period, he was also an All-Academic Team selection for the GLIAC as well. At Wayne State, Baldwin finished his career at WSU as the all-time career record for doubles, 70, as well as the single season record for doubles with 29. He is also among the top five all-time in six other offensive categories. Baldwin was named a team captain in 2018 by his teammates.

Baldwin graduated from Bishop Foley High School, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Management from Wayne State in 2018. In 2019, he earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Sport Management from Ashland University.

Baldwin currently resides in Auburn with his wife, Haley.
