Bio

The 2018 season was Jordan Bischel's fourth as the head coach of the Northwood baseball program. He has a record of 137-67 at Northwood and an overall career record of 211-121 in five years as a head coach. In summer of 2017, he earned the title of Assistant Athletic Director for Business Operations & Ticketing.

In his four seasons as the head coach at Northwood, Bischel guided the team to unprecedented success. The Timberwolves won the last two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships as well as the last two GLIAC Tournament titles. In his four seasons at Northwood, Bischel went 137-76 overall (.643) and reached the GLIAC Tournament three times. In the previous 49 years in Northwood baseball history, Northwood won no GLIAC titles, reached the GLIAC Tournament once and had a win percentage of .416 (843-1185). Over the last two year Northwood won 84 games – the best two-year stretch prior to Bischel’s arrival featured 55 wins (1989-90).

Bischel comes to Northwood after a pair of highly successful seasons as head coach of Midland University in Fremont, Nebraska. Over the past two seasons, the Warriors registered 74 victories and a pair of appearances in the NAIA National Tournament.  He guided Midland to an 18 win improvement from the 2012 to the 2013 season (13 to 31). In 2014 the Warriors went 43-19 overall (.694) and won the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament.  The 43 victories were both Midland and GPAC records for wins in a season.

Bischel’s Midland teams quickly developed a knack for peaking at the right time, recording a 9-3 record in Conference Tournament play while making the championship game in back to back seasons.  The 2014 Warriors re-wrote the program’s record books, setting 28 school records (including ERA, double, runs scored run differential, hits, total bases and winning streak).  While the 2014 team boasted an impressive offense that ranked in the top 10 nationally in doubles, runs scored and runs batted in, Bischel’s program are built first on pitching and defense.  His teams finished 1st in the GPAC in fielding percentage in 2013 and 2nd in 2014.  More impressively, the team set back to back school records for ERA including ranking 8th nationally (2.81) in 2014.  In just 129 games at Midland his teams fired an incredible 17 shutouts.

Prior to his arrival at Midland, Bischel had a great deal of success in a variety of coaching roles. He spent four seasons as the head coach of the Green Bay Bullfrogs of the prestigious summer collegiate Northwoods League. His 132 wins in the Northwoods League ranks 13th in league history and his 2011 team was one of just 4 teams in the 18 team league to qualify for the post-season.  While in Green Bay, Bischel helped develop 43 future Major League Baseball Draft picks including 2 first round picks (Mitch Haniger – Milwaukee and Phil Ervin – Cincinnati) and a total of 12 players in the top 12 rounds of the draft.  Four former players went on to play for Midland’s own Great Lakes Loons including Dodgers’ top prospects Scott Schebler and Mike Thomas as well as 2014 starting third baseman Paul Hoenecke.  Impressively, Bischel has worked with 11 Draft Picks who did not play Division I baseball.

Bischel coached at three other schools before his time at Midland. He spent three seasons as the pitching coach at Northwest Missouri State. His 2011 staff registered the lowest ERA in the league (3.44) and helped guide the 2010 team to the Mid-America Athletics Association conference tournament. Prior to that, Bischel was an assistant at John Carroll and Saint Norbert College. While at Saint Norbert, the team won three straight division championships and earned its first at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

A four-year letterwinner at St. Norbert from 2000-03, Bischel played first base and was a pitcher for the Green Knights. He led the team in innings twice and was an Academic All-Conference honoree all four years. During his senior campaign, Bischel was named a team captain and claimed All-Conference honors.

A Green Bay, Wisconsin native, Bischel was named to the Dean’s List all 8 semesters as a student at St. Norbert and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration (Accounting) and has a Master’s Degree in Athletic Administration from Northwest Missouri St. University.  While at Midland, Bischel also served as an Assistant Athletics Director; supervising in the financial aid process throughout athletics.
