Football Improves To 2-0 With 38-0 Win Over Madonna

INSIDE THE GAME

  • The Timberwolves won the coin toss and deferred to the Crusaders. Just 14 seconds into the game, the Northwood defense forced a fumble that was picked up by Jace Parrish. Nate Gomez then found Shamon Gennes for a 15-yard touchdown after three plays. Max Gonos followed with a successful extra point as NU took the early 7-0 lead.
  • Northwood added seven more on their following drive. An eight play, 58-yard drive was capped with a 1-yard touchdown rush by Brec Alward as the Timberwolves put the score at 14-0.
  • The opening play of the second quarter saw Alward extending the NU advantage to 21-0 with another one-yard touchdown. The Timberwolves traveled 36 yards over 10 plays to find the endzone. 
  • With just over nine minutes to go in the half, Northwood finished their 84-yard, four play drive in exciting fashion. John Hall made a leaping catch over his defender for a 37-yard touchdown. Gonos converted his fourth successful extra point of the game as the Timberwolves went up 28-0.
  • An interception by JeMarrlowe Sykes set up the Timberwolves up on the Northwood 41-yard line. NU used a 29-yard rush from Kentrell Ware to advance to the 30. They would get all the way to the Madonna 12-yard line but were ultimately unable to convert the 29-yard field goal attempt as the score remained 28-0 going into the half.
  • Majestik Dudley helped the Timberwolves preserve their shutout with an interception at the NU three-yard line with just under three minutes to go in the quarter. Both teams would remain scoreless in the quarter as Northwood held onto their comfortable 28-0 lead.
  • NU responded to their scoreless third quarter with a touchdown on the second play of the fourth quarter. Jake Kelbert connected with freshman wide receiver Bryan Kinley on a deep 39-yard touchdown pass as the Timberwolves extended their lead to 35-0.
  • Max Gonos rounded out the scoring for Northwood with a 20-yard field goal. The NU defense held the Crusaders on their final drive to earn the 38-0 shutout victory.
