INSIDE THE GAME

  • After the Northwood defense forced a punt on the opening possession of the game, the Timberwolves drove down the field and got on the board right away. The Timberwolves went 80 yards in 10 plays, capped by a Brec Alward 16-yard rushing touchdown.
  • Lake Erie was the better team for a stretch after that, scoring a touchdown to go up 7-6.
  • After Northwood threw an interception, the Storm found the endzone again to take a 14-6 lead.
  • The Timberwolves responded by controlling the remainder of the half. NU put three points on the board with a Max Gonos 43-yard field goal to cut the lead to 14-9.
  • NU had another long drive result in points, as Gonos connected on a 36-yard field goal to cap an 11-play drive to make the score 14-12.
  • Northwood took back the lead late in the second on Gonos' third field goal of the day. His 43-yard field goal gave NU a 15-14 lead at the break.
  • The Timberwolves had another chance to find the endzone in the third quarter but had to settle for another Gonos field goal. He connected from 31-yards. Northwood's 18-14 lead held heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Lake Erie took the lead with just under eight minutes remaining in the game. A 74-yard drive was capped with a touchdown to make the score 21-18.
  • Northwood got the ball back with 7:51 remaining but were unable to put together a drive, giving the ball back to LE with 4:29 to go.
  • The Storm picked up three first downs on that drive, not giving the ball back to Northwood until there were just 22 seconds left.
  • NU was unable to get into field goal range, giving Lake Erie the win.
