RECAP: Football wraps up its 2022 season with a 34-14 win against Walsh on senior day Saturday afternoon (November 12).

INSIDE THE GAME

  • Walsh opened the scoring at the 4:26 mark of the opening quarter. They capped a 28-yard drive with a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead
  • Northwood responded immediately on their next possession. After a Jake Kelbert to John Hall 47-yard reception, NU was set up on the Walsh 12. Kelbert later capped the 61-yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown run to tie the score at 7-7.
  • After the two teams exchanged interceptions, Walsh drove 92 yards in nine plays. The drive was finished with a touchdown to put the Cavaliers back on top 14-7.
  • Late in the half, Northwood came back again to tie the score. A seven-play, 73-yard drive was finished off by a Kelbert to Tajae Leslie 10-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-14.
  • NU had a chance to take the lead in the final seconds of the half. After a Malik Edmondson interception gave the Timberwolves the ball at the WU 33, the Timberwolves got the ball all the way down to the three yard line. The drive stalled, however, and the field goal attempt to take the lead was blocked. That made the score 14-14 at halftime.
  • One of the key plays of the game occurred on the first snap from scrimmage of the second half. Walsh lost a fumble, giving the ball back to Northwood at the WU 28 yard line. Six play later, Kelbert scored a touchdown on a 19-yard run to put the Timberwolves up 21-14.
  • Another big play occurred on fourth down for Walsh in the third quarter. The Cavaliers completed a pass that would have been good for a first down, but senior linebacker Mahlon Slaughter ripped the ball out of the hands of the WU player. Slaughter then returned the fumble 76-yards for a touchdown to make the Northwood lead 28-14.
  • NU put the game away with 4:26 remaining. Brec Alward found the end zone from 11-yards out to cap the scoring and make the final 34-14.
