Men's Basketball Defeats GLIAC-Leading Wayne State 74-63

The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a 74-63 win over GLIAC-leading Wayne State University Thursday evening (February 7).

The Timberwolves improved to 9-11 overall, 8-8 in the GLIAC.  WSU falls to 14-4 overall, 13-2 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves came out strong, scoring the first seven points of the game and not trail the rest of the way.. The Timberwolves led by as many as 10 before taking a 35-26 lead at the half. Northwood shot 54.5 percent from the floor (12-22) compared to WSU at 40.0 percent (10-25). 

Wayne State hung around in the second half, but Northwood would maintain the advantage throughout the final 20 minutes.  WSU got no closer than seven over the final 13 minutes.

For the game, Northwood finished at 53.3 percent (24-45) overall and 43.5 percent (10-23) from behind the arc. Wayne State finished at 43.4 percent (23-53) overall and 30.8 percent (4-13) from behind the arc.

The balanced Northwood attack featured tive Timberwolves in double figures for the game. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake). He had team-highs in points (17), rebounds (10) and blocks (eight).  Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) finished with 13 points and six rebounds, while Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich./Bridgeport) added 13 points. Cameron Joyce (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent St. Mary ) and Booker Stoudmire (Ypsilanti, Mich./Belleville) each finished with 10 points.

Northwood will travel to Lake Superior State University Saturday afternoon (February 8).  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
