Men's Basketball Downs Ohio Dominican 78-75

The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a 78-75 road win over Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon (January 11).

Northwood improves to 9-7 overall, 5-3 in the GLIAC.  ODU falls to 3-9 overall, 1-7 in the GLIAC.

Ohio Dominican got off to a strong start in the game, jumping out to a 17-6 lead in the opening seven minutes of the game. The Panthers still led 34-29 with less than three minutes to go in the half when the Timberwolves made a run.  Northwood scored the final nine points of the half to earn a 38-34 lead at the break. After a slow start, the Timberwolves finished the opening half at 53.6 percent from the floor (15-28).

Northwood continued to play well to open the second half, eventually opening up a 59-47 lead with under 13 minutes remaining.  But Ohio Dominican fought back, eventually cutting the lead to 65-64 with 4:42 remaining. NU's offense executed well down the stretch to earn the win, as the Timberwolves made four straight shots to go back up six with 22 seconds remaining.  ODU made one final run, scoring five points in 10 seconds to cut the NU lead to one at 76-76.  Northwood held on in the final moments thanks to a pair of free throws by Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) and a stop on defense.

For the game, Northwood shot 53.6 percent from the floor, making 30-56 attempts. NU finished 4-8 from 3-point range (50.0 percent) and 14 of 17 from the foul line (82.4 percent). ODU finished at 45.8 percent (27-59) overall, 33.3 percent from 3-point range (6-18) and 75.0 percent from the foul line (15-20).

Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) led all scorers in the game, finishing with 27 points.  He also added eight rebounds and three blocks. Wes Wilcox (East Detroit, Mich./Southlake) registered 15 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season. Langkabel added 15 points of his own for the Timberwolves.

Northwood will host Wayne State Thursday night (January 11). Game time is set for 8 p.m.
