Men's Basketball Defeats Ohio Dominican 84-66

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's basketball team picked up an 84-66 win over Ohio Dominican Saturday afternoon (January 10).

Northwood improves to 9-5 overall, 5-3 in the GLIAC.  Ohio Dominican falls to 3-10 overall, 1-7 in the GLIAC.

The opening half was tight throughout, with neither team leading by more than six points. ODU held the advantage early, but the Timberwolves scored seven of the final nine points of the half to earn a 37-32 lead at the break.  Northwood shot 43.8 percent from the floor while Ohio Dominican finished at 39.4 percent (13-33).

The Timberwolves got their offense going in the second half, which proved to be the key to the win.  NU led 47-41 with just over 12 minutes to go in the game when the Timberwolves took control for good.  Northwood scored 10 of the next 14 points to go up 57-45. The Panthers got no closer than seven the rest of the way.  The Timberwolves shot 56.0 percent from the floor in the second half (14-25) while making 66.7 percent from 3-point range (8-12).

For the game, Northwood finished at 49.1 percent from the floor (28-57) while ODU ended up at 40.6 percent (26-64). NU was strong from beyond the arc, finishing 11-23 from 3-point range (47.8 percent).

Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) led all scorers with 23 points. He went 7-9 from the floor and 5-7 from 3-point range. Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./USC) had 17 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals for Northwood, while Nick Spitzley (Pewamo, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) scored a career-high 14 points off the bench.  Senior Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Bowles also reached a career milestone in the contest, becoming the 30th member of the 1,000 point club at Northwood. He now has 1,007 points for his career.

Northwood will host Hillsdale Thursday night (January  15). Game time is set for 8 p.m.
