Men's Basketball Earns 77-56 Road Win At Cedarville

CEDARVILLE, OHIO – The Northwood University men's basketball team picked up their first road win of the season with a 77-56 road win over Cedarville Saturday afternoon (November 21).

Northwood is now 3-1 with the win. Cedarville falls to 0-4 with the loss.

The Timberwolves offense came out sluggish early on in the game, as Northwood missed their first 10 shots of the contest. But NU's defense did not allow Cedarville get out to a big lead – the Yellow Jackets were only able to open up an 8-0 lead during the 0-10 shooting stretch for Northwood. From that point on, the Northwood offense played well. The Timberwolves scored 41 points over the final 15 minutes of the half while making 17 of their final 30 (56.7 percent) shots. That allowed Northwood to open up a 41-29 lead at halftime. NU had 11 offensive rebounds and committed six fewer turnovers (5-11) in the half.

Cedarville got the lead down to 10 early in the second half, but that is as close as the Yellow Jackets would get the rest of the way. Northwood eventually led by as many as 25 before earning the 21 point win.

After the slow shooting start, the Timberwolves ended up shooting 46.2 percent from the floor for the game (30-65). Cedarville ended up at 38.6 percent (22-57). Turnovers and offensive rebounds were a big part of the win for Northwood – NU ended up with a 22-6 advantage in points off turnovers and an 18-5 advantage in second chance points.

Four Timberwolves finished in double figures in the game, led by senior guard Jermaine Myers (Ajax, Ont./Fordham). He came off the bench to finish with 18 points, five rebounds and four steals. Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) had a double-double in the game, totaling 11 points, 10 assists and four steals. PJ Weaver (Dayton, Ohio/Meadowdale) and Brad Schaub (Marlette, Mich./UMass-Lowell) added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Northwood will host Lewis Tuesday night (November 24. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
