Men's Basketball Defeats Wayne State 94-80

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's basketball team claimed a 94-80 win over Wayne State Thursday night (December 3).

The game was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener for both teams.

Northwood is now 4-2 overall, 1-0 in the GLIAC. Wayne State falls to 0-4 overall, 0-1 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves jumped out to a 14-6 early in the game and maintained the lead the remainder of the first half. The advantage was down to 25-24 with just over six minutes remaining, but Northwood finished the half strong. NU out-scored the Warriors 23-6 the remainder of the first half to take a 48-30 lead to the locker room.  Northwood's perimeter shooting was the key to the lead – NU connected on 10 3-pointers in the opening half (10-17 – 58.8 percent).

Northwood maintained control of the game in the second half. Wayne State got no closer than 13 points after the break. The Timberwolves led by as many as 23 en route to the win.

For the game, Northwood shot 51.7 percent (30-58) compared to Wayne State at 48.5 percent (32-66). Northwood won the game thanks to 3-point shooting – NU finished with 17 3-pointers while shooting 56.7 percent (17-30) while WSU ended up 6-15 (40.0 percent).

Five Timberwolves finished in double-figures, led by senior guard Jermaine Myers (Ajax, Ontario/Fordham). He scored a career-high 22 points without missing a shot, going 7-7 from the floor, 5-5 from 3-point range and 3-3 from the foul line. Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) finished with 17 points, nine assists, five rebounds and four steals. Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) had 17 points in 23 minutes. Zach Allread (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Nick Spitzley (Pewamo, Mich./Pewamo-Westphalia) added 11 and 10, respectively.

Northwood will host Findlay Saturday (December 3). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
