Men's Basketball Defeats Findlay 75-56

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's basketball team picked up a 75-56 win over Findlay Saturday afternoon (December 5).

Northwood is now 5-2 overall, 2-0 in the GLIAC. Findlay falls to 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the GLIAC.

After neither team scored in the opening 2:45 of the game, Northwood connected on a 3-pointer to take a lead they would hold the rest of the way. Northwood led by as many as 10 in the first half before taking a 35-31 lead to the break. The Timberwolves ended up shooting 46.7 percent (14-30) in the opening 20 minutes, compared to Findlay at 42.9 percent (12-28). Both teams had nine turnovers in the half, but Northwood did a much better job at converting those chances into points. NU held a 16-7 edge in points off turnovers at halftime.

The Northwood lead varied between one and 12 points until the final five minutes of the game. A 9-0 NU run took an eight point lead and made it 17 at 66-49 with 4:23 remaining. Findlay got no closer than 14 the rest of the way. The Timberwolves led by as many as 21 before earning the 19 point win.

The Timberwolves used 60.0 percent shooting in the second half (15-25) to finish the game at 52.7 percent overall (29-55). Findlay ended up at 40.7 percent overall (22-54). NU had big advantages in points off turnovers (22-14) and fast break points (12-3).

Northwood was led by senior guard Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill). He finished with 21 points, six rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a blocked shot. Jermaine Myers (Ajax, Ontario) added 13 points, while Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) added 11 points and five rebounds.

The Timberwolves will travel to Walsh next Thursday (December 10). Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
