Men's Basketball Loses To Northern Michigan 82-69

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped a 82-69 decision to Northern Michigan Wildcat Saturday afternoon (January 30).

Northwood is now 10-10 overall, 6-8 in the GLIAC. Northern Michigan improves to 6-12 overall, 4-10 in conference play.

The Wildcats came out hot to take control early. NMU opened with a 15-3 run to start the game. Northwood cut the margin down to seven at 23-16, but Northern Michigan responded with a 19-5 run to make the score 42-21. The Wildcats eventually led 45-27 at the break. Three-point shooting was the key to the half for NMU, going 8-12 from beyond the arc (66.7 percent) compared to 1-8 for Northwood (12.5 percent).

Northwood cut the lead down to 12 on four separate occasions, but that is as close as the Timberwolves would get. NMU led by as many as 24 en route to the win.

For the contest, Northwood shot 42.1 percent (24-57) compared to Northern Michigan at 50.9 percent (28-55). NMU finished at 52.4 percent (11-21) from three-point range while NU ended up at 27.8 percent (5-18). Both teams were strong from the foul line - the Wildcats finished 15-15 while Northwood converted on 88.9 percent attempts (16-18).

Northwood was led by three players in double figures – Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) and Zach Allread (West Bloomfield, Mich.) had 12 each, while Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich.) had 10.

The Timberwolves will return to action Monday Night (February 2) for a game against Lake Superior State at Riepma Arena. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
