Men's Basketball Drops 90-58 Exhibition Game At No. 19 Michigan

FIRST HALF

  • Both teams split the first 16 points six minutes into the contest.
  • Michigan soon rattled off a 11-2 run to open up a 19-10 lead by the halfway point of the opening stanza.
  • The Wolverines soon rattled off another 12-4 run to open up a 17-point lead with five minutes left in the half at 31-14. The Timberwolves cut the deficit down to 11 with six consecutive points, but UM maintained a spread of 15 at 41-26 by the end of the first.
  • Michigan shot 68 percent from the field (17-25), making 16.7 percent of their attempts from behind the arc (1-6).
  • Northwood knocked down 40 percent of their shots from the field (12-30), missing all of their attempts (0-4) from three-point range. 

SECOND HALF

  • Michigan netted 14 of the first 21 points of the second half to increase their lead to 22.
  • The Wolverines increased their spread to as much as 34 with five minutes to go in the game, keeping their lead above 20 for the better part of the second.  
  • The Timberwolves shot about the same from the field in the second half, making 40.6 percent of their attempts (13-32). They made 22.2 percent of their attempts from behind the arc (2-9).
  • Michigan maintained their stellar shooting in the second, sinking 57.1 percent of their shots (20-35) and 80 percent from three-point range (4-5).

GAME NOTES

  • Michigan outscored NU in the paint 56-40, off the bench 29-11, on fast-break 22-2, and off of turnovers 25-9. The Timberwolves finished on top in second chance points with an 8-6 spread.
  • Trey McBride led all Timberwolves with 16. He scored 15-plus points in a game nine times in 21 starts last season.  
  • This was the Timberwolves' third consecutive season playing a Big Ten opponent on the road in exhibition play. In 2016, they traveled to East Lansing to face the Michigan State Spartans. Last season, they traveled to Lincoln to tip-off against head coach Jeff Rekeweg's alma mater, the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
