Men's Basketball Defeats Madonna 87-82

RECAP: Northwood plays well down the stretch to earn a hard-fought 87-82 win over Madonna Monday night (December 17).

FIRST HALF

  • Both teams made big runs in the opening half, starting with Madonna. The Crusaders scored 13 of the first 17 points of the game in the opening four minutes.
  • Northwood bounced back, tying the game at 16-16.
  • The Crusaders then put up 19 of the next 26 points to push the lead to 35-23 with less than six minutes remaining in half.
  • The Timberwolves had the final run of the half, putting up 19 of the final 28 points to tie the score at 43-43.
  • Madonna shot 56.7 percent (17-30) from the floor in the half while going 7-12 from 3-point range (58.3 percent).
  • Northwood was also strong from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, going 18-31 overall (58.1 percent) and 5-10 from the 3-point line (50.0 percent).

SECOND HALF

  • The game was tight in the second half, with the biggest lead for either team standing at seven.
  • Northwood trailed 82-78 with 2:29 remaining when the Timberwolves made the final push of the contest. NU scored the final nine points of the game to earn the win.
  • Northwood's defense was much better in the second half, holding Madonna to 40.7 percent from the floor (11-27).
