Men's Basketball Opens Season With Thrilling 94-92 Overtime Win Over Malone
OVERVIEW – MALONE
SCORE: Northwood Timberwolves 94, Malone Pioneers 92 (OT)

RECAP: Men's Basketball opens their season with a dramatic 94-92 overtime win against Malone Friday (November 12).
FIRST HALF
- Northwood led the majority of the opening half and led by as many as seven in the opening 20 minutes.
- Malone finished the half strong and took the lead at 35-34 before the Timberwolves scored the final points of the half for a 36-35 NU lead at the break.
- Malone shot 43.8 percent from the floor in the first half (14-32) but missed all eight of their 3-point attempts.
- Northwood finished the half at 57.1 percent (16-28) while making 4-7 from 3-point range (57.1 percent).
SECOND HALF
- Northwood got the lead at 55-54 and lead for nearly the entire rest of the way.
- NU led by as many as seven before the Pioneers took the lead at 73-72 with 3:02 remaining.
- Northwood responded and got the lead back up to five with 1:25 remaining, but a pair of missed front ends of one-and-one free throw situations allowed Malone to stay around.
- The Pioneers then connected on a 3-pointer from near half court with one second remaining to send the game to overtime.
- The Timberwolves were 18-36 from the floor in the second half (50.0 percent). NU was 3-8 from 3-point range (37.5 percent) while going 3-6 from the foul line (50.0 percent).
- Malone was 16-37 in the half (43.2 percent) overall, 5-17 from 3-point range (29.4 percent) and 6-7 from the foul line (85.7 percent).
OVERTIME
- The offenses were the story of the extra session, as both teams had big overtime periods.
- Northwood jumped out with the first four points in less than 30 seconds.
- Malone then scored seven straight points in just over two minutes to go up 87-84.
- With Northwood trailing 89-87 with 1:34 remaining, Northwood made the final key push to earn the win. NU scored seven straight points to go up 94-89 on their way to the 94-92 overtime victory.
- – NU went 6-8 overall (75.0 percent), 1-1 from 3-point range and 3-5 from the foul line (60.0 percent).
