Men's Basketball Loses At Wayne State 65-57

RECAP: Northwood men's basketball dropped a 65-57 contest at Wayne State Saturday afternoon (December 11).

FIRST HALF

  • Northwood led early on, standing with a 12-10 advantage with 14 minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Warriors went on top 18-16 with under 10 minutes remaining and led the remainder of the half.
  • WSU pushed their advantage to as many as 10 before settling for a 33-26 lead at the break.
  • Northwood finished the first half going 11-27 from the floor, good for 40.7 percent. The Timberwolves did shoot it well from 3-point range (4-9) but missed all four of their free throw attempts.
  • Wayne State shot 42.9 percent from the floor (12-28). The Warriors were 0-5 from beyond the arc while making nine of 10 from the foul line.

SECOND HALF

  • The Timberwolves started the second half strong, scoring eight of the first nine points to tie the score at 34-34.
  • Wayne State responded and eventually went up 57-47 with 4:32 remaining.
  • NU made one final push, scoring eight straight points to get within two at 57-55 with 2:15 to go.
  • Northwood's offense went cold at that point, however, going scoreless for nearly two minutes. During that stretch, the Warriors netted six straight points to get their lead to eight on their way to the 65-57 final.
  • Both teams struggled from the floor in the second half. Wayne State finished at 26.5 percent (9-34), while Northwood was 13-39 (33.3 percent).
  • The Warriors won the game at the foul line – WSU was 14-15 in the second half compared to Northwood at 3-3.
