Sterling Johnson joined the Northwood University men's basketball staff in the fall of 2022.

Johnson spent last season working as an assistant coach at Schoolcraft, where he worked with current Northwood Assistant Coach Carlos McMath. Johnson was in charge of scouting for the Ocelots as well as administering camps, organizing travel as well as various other day-to-day duties.

Prior to Schoolcraft, Johnson spent a pair of seasons at the University of Northwestern Ohio. He also served as an assistant at Defiance College from 2016-19.

Johnson also is the founder of his own basketball camp, named the Sterling Johnson Fundamental Basketball Camp. It is an annual camp targeted for athletes in the Clinton Township and Mount Clemens area.

A four-year student-athlete at Saginaw Valley, Johnson played in a total of 108 games in his career. He was a member of the winningest team in program history, the 2015-16 team that reached the Elite Eight.
