Men's Golf Places Fourth At GLIAC North Invite

SOUTH HAVEN, MICH. – The Northwood University men's golf team placed fourth out of 14 teams at the GLIAC North Invitational Monday afternoon (September 21).

The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the HawksHead Links. The course played as a par 72 at 7,003 yards.

Northwood ranked eighth after the opening round after carding team score of 304, but the Timberwolves rallied back in the second round. NU shot a 292 in round two, allowing Northwood to move up four spots to place fourth overall. Grand Valley State was the overall winner at 581, followed by Malone (583) and Northern Michigan (593).

The balanced Northwood lineup featured three players in the top 25 of the event. Leading the way for the Timberwolves was junior Kory Roberts (Battle Creek, Mich./Grand Rapids C.C.), who carded rounds of 75-71 for a total of 146, good for a tie for 14th overall. Matt Benson (Grand Ledge, Mich.) finished totaled 148 (76-72) to tie for 21st, while Paul Ostby (Mt. Morris, Mich./Mott CC) tied for 23rd at 150 (75-75). A total of 80 players competed in the tournament.

Northwood will travel to the first NCAA Regional Tournament September 28-29.
