Men's Golf Finishes Seventh At The D-II Midwest Fall Regional

CHICAGO, ILL. – The Northwood University men's golf team placed seventh out of 32 teams at the D-II Midwest Fall Regional Tuesday afternoon (September 29).

The two-day, 36-hole event was held at a pair of courses at Harborside International. The field was split up among the Starboard Course. Both courses played as a par 72.

Much like their first event of the season, the Timberwolves rallied with a strong second day performance to move up in the final standings. NU stood in 14th place after day one with a team score of 296. On day two, in much tougher conditions, Northwood shot a score of 314. But that total was the third best of the day, moving Northwood up seven spots in the standings to place seventh. NU moved up four spots on the final day in their previous event at the GLIAC North Invitational.  Ferris State as the overall winner at 597 (284-313), followed by Northern Michigan at 599 (294-305). NU finished just two shots behind third-place Grand Valley State (291-317=608).

Leading the way for Northwood was Kory Roberts (Battle Creek, Mich./G.R.C.C) who tied for 14th overall with a two-day total of 150 (72-78). Paul Ostby (Mt. Morris, Mich./Mott CC) was one stroke behind Roberts after shooting 76-75. A total of 158 players took part in the event.

Northwood will compete at the second regional tournament October 12-13.
