Men's Golf Opens Spring Season With Ninth Place Finish At Coyote Classic

SAN BERNARDINO, CALIF. – The Northwood University men's golf team opened the spring portion of their schedule at the Coyote Classic Monday and Tuesday (February 22-23).

The two-day, 54-hole event was hosted by Cal-State San Bernardino at the Arrowhead Country Club. The course played as a 6,528 yard, par 71.  Four of the 12 teams, including Northwood, are ranked among the top-50 Division II schools in the latest national rankings.

Northwood shot team scores of 308-292-305 to finish at 905 overall. Sonoma State was the overall winner at 864 (287-294-283), followed by CSU – East Bay at 870 (299-280-291) and CSU – San Bernandino (293-293-285). A total of 12 teams took part in the event.

Leading the way for Northwood was senior Paul Ostby (Mt. Morris, Mich./Mott CC). He carded rounds of 76-70-72 to finish with a five-over par total of 218, good for a tie for 10th place overall. Matt Garland (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) tied for 24th at 225 (75-73-77). A total of 71 players took part in the event.

Northwood will compete at the GLIAC South Tournament March 25-26.
