Men's Golf Wins Purgatory Regional Tournament

NOBLESVILLE, IND. - The Northwood University men's golf team turned in its best performance of the season Sunday and Monday (April 10-11), taking home first place at the Purgatory Regional.

The two-day, 36-hole event was held the the Purgatory Golf Club. The course played as a 7,115 yard, par-72. The tournament was the fourth and final regional tournament of the regular season.

Northwood opened the tournament with a first-round score of 299, which tied them for second place after one day. On day two, the Timberwolves shot 301, which was good for a total of 600. That gave NU a two-shot win over second place Lewis (299-303=602). Indianapolis was third overall at 603, while Missouri-St. Louis and Wayne State tied for fourth at 607. A total of 30 teams took part in the event.

Leading the way for Northwood was junior Matt Garland (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview), who claimed individual medalist honors. He carded rounds of 73 and 68 to finish with a three-under par total of 141. Kory Roberts (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) and Paul Ostby  (Mt. Morris, Mich./Mott CC) both finished at 151 overall to tie for 15th. A total of 150 players took part in the event.

Northwood will travel to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship April 15-17.
