Men's Soccer Defeats Marygrove 4-1

 

The Northwood University men's soccer team defeated Marygrove 4-1 in the 2014 home opener Tuesday afternoon (September 9).

The Timberwolves are now 2-0 on the season, while the Mustangs fall to 0-2.

NU scored early and often, as junior Gino Pasquali (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) put the Timberwolves on the board in the sixth minute. Pasquali beat the keeper from right-center across the net, on a feed from Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England / John Hampden). Junior, Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Niagara) scored his first goal of the match (22:44) after dribbling through three defenders and the keeper, before shooting within the six-yard box. Levock quickly netted his second goal at 29:23 on a deflection from a corner kick. With an 8-5 advantage in shots, NU took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Marygrove got on the board at 60:17 as Abdoulie Jallow beat the NU keeper on the dribble. Levock responded on a shot from the left side off a through-ball from Bryan Lawson (Troy, Mich. / Athens) to put the Timberwolves on top 4-0.

For the match, NU held the advantage in shots (16-7) and corner kicks (5-2). Northwood was also the more aggressive team, with 19 fouls to 14 Mustang infractions. Levock made the home opener notable, scoring a hat trick on four shots. Thomas added three shots and an assist, while Lawson finished with an assist and two shots.
