Men's Soccer Tops Malone 3-1

CANTON, OHIO - The Northwood University men's soccer team defeated Malone 3-1 Friday night (September 19).

The Timberwolves are now 3-0-1 on the year, 1-0-1 in the GLIAC. The Pioneers fall to 1-3 overall, 0-2 in the GLIAC.

Junior James DeCosemo (Stokesley, England) put NU on the board with his first goal of the season, coming from a direct kick. Northwood took the advantage to the break, recording 13 shots in the opening period. Malone's keeper made eight saves in the first 45 min.

The Timberwolves continued to control play in the second half. Newcomer Mayowa Olufeko (Welling, England) netted his first goal of the season at 54:18 on an assist from DeCosemo. The Pioneers retaliated at 74:06 to keep the game interesting at 2-1. Olufeko quickly put the game away with his second goal, beating the keeper into the upper right corner of the net on a pass from DeCosemo.

NU finished with an advantage in shots (23-11), while each team took four corner kicks. Northwood forced Malone to make 11 saves in the match. For the game, Olufeko took eight shots to record two goals. DeCosemo took six shots, tallying one goal and two assists. Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley) registered three shots on goal, while Andrew Nugent (Ipswich, England) recorded two shots and James Vaughan (Bexhill, England) added one.
