Men's Soccer Defeats Tiffin 1-0

MIDLAND, MICH. - The Northwood University men's soccer team pulled off another intense 1-0 victory over Tiffin on Friday afternoon (October 17).

Both teams are 10-3-1 overall, while the Dragons hold a 9-3 GLIAC record to 8-3-1 for the Timberwolves.

The match remained scoreless for the opening 45 minutes, as the Timberwolves held an advantage in both shots (6-5) and corner kicks (3-1). An aggressive Tiffin team recorded 11 fouls in the first half, while possession was fairly even throughout the period.

Less than ten minutes into the second half, the Dragons began playing a man down. Northwood capitalized on the opportunity, netting the match's lone goal at 60:55. NU's Gino Pasquali (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) beat the keeper from around eight yards out. From that point on, both teams' level of aggression rose as there were numerous cautions given. By the end of the match, there were a total of 11 cards given and 36 fouls. The Dragons finished the match earning four red cards (three players, one coach).

For the match, Northwood out-shot the Dragons 18-9. Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) registered four headers, while Andrew Nugent (Ipswich, England) added four shots in the match. Jack Smith (Milnthorpe, England), Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Niagara) and Pasquali each added two shots. NU also held the advantage in corner kicks 6-2.
