No. 10 Men's Soccer Defeats Ohio Dominican 5-0

MIDLAND, MICH. – The No. 10 Northwood University men's soccer team defeats Ohio Dominican 5-0 on Sunday afternoon (October 18) for Senior Day.

This was the final regular season match at Dean Field for the following Northwood seniors: Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark / Tornbjerg), Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern), Joey Censoni (Rochester, Mich. / Adams), Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England / John Hampden), Jack Smith (Milnthorpe, England), James DeCosemo (Stokesley, England), Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley), Mayowa Olufeko (London, England / Welling) and Andrew Nugent (Ipswich, England). This senior class was key in NU's GLIAC Tournament Championship a year ago, as well as essential to the Timberwolves current national ranking (No. 10).

Northwood continues to extend the school-record with 11 straight wins and improves to 12-1 overall, 10-1 in the GLIAC. The Panthers fall to 0-20-2 on the year, 0-10-1 in the GLIAC.

In true fashion, the Timberwolves scored early and often throughout the first half. NU's sophomore James Vaughan (Bexhill, England / St. Richards) found the back of the net on a floater over the keeper's head from just outside the penalty box, on an assist by James DeCosemo less than two minutes into the game. Nearly ten minutes later, at 12:37, senior Adam Thomas replicated the same play on a goal kick from keeper Johannes Sterobo, giving the keeper his first career assist on senior day. With a 2-0 lead, senior James DeCosemo netted his 11th goal of the season on a cross from Thomas at nearly 20 yards out in the 27th minute. Less than ten minutes later, Vaughan found the back of the net again on a deflection from Andrew Nugent off a set piece to go ahead 4-0 entering halftime.

After already registering an assist in the first half, NU senior Andrew Nugent netted a goal of his own in the 76th minute from nearly 15 yards out. The Timberwolves dominated the match offensively, maintaining an advantage in shots (19-7) while both teams tallied three corner kicks. Senior keeper, Johannes Sterobo, finished with an assist and two saves in his 24th career shutout. Adam Thomas, James DeCosemo and Andrew Nugent each finished with a goal and an assist, while James Vaughan added a pair of goals.

NU will be on the road next weekend, traveling to Findlay on Friday (October 23) at 3pm before making their way to Tiffin on Sunday (October 25) with kickoff at 1 p.m.
