Men's Soccer Plays Tiffin To A 2-2 Draw

TIFFIN, OHIO – The No. 8 Northwood University men's soccer team plays Tiffin to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon (October 25).

The Timberwolves are now 13-1-1 overall, 11-1-1 in the GLIAC. The Dragons stand at 8-6-3 on the year, 6-6-1 in the GLIAC.

Neither team was able to get on the board in the opening period, as there were a total of seven shots and six corner kicks recorded between the two teams. The Timberwolves got off the first shot of the second half just over a minute into the period but it was saved by the Dragons keeper. In the 54th minute, TU put the first goal past NU's keeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark / Tornbjerg) since the team's first meeting earlier this season (Sept. 25). Since that date, Sterobo recorded 834 consecutive scoreless minutes. Despite unleashing five more shots at Tiffin, the Dragons were able to capitalize on a cross in the 74th minute to go ahead 2-0 at the half.

Northwood continued to battle in the second period, putting seven additional shots in the books before finally netting a PK goal at 85:15. Trailing 2-1, NU continued to strike as the team registered four consecutive shots and two corner kick before Connor Cole (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) was able to finish a rebound from Zachary Bakos (Linden, Mich.) in the 90th minute to tie the match 2-2.

Both teams were able to tally a pair of shots in the first overtime, while NU fired six shots in the second overtime but neither team found the back of the net. Northwood finished with the offensive advantage with an edge in shots (30-12) and corner kicks (11-5). Sterobo recorded five saves in the match.

Northwood is set to close out the regular season at Saginaw Valley State on Friday (October 30). The match is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. With a win, the Timberwolves would clinch the GLIAC Championship.
