RECAP: The Timberwolves were unable to come back from a pair of goals down and fell 2-0 to ten-man Ashland University on Sunday.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Ashland put some early pressure on the Timberwolves as they tallied three shots in the first seven minutes.
  • The Timberwolves forced the first save of the game as Andrew Behring forced Ashland goalkeeper Dimitrius Karousos into action in the 12th minute.
  • Ashland regained momentum over the next few minutes before finally opening up scoring in the 25th minute as a George Brown cross found the head of Kieran Paterson who made the score 1-0 in favor of the hosts.
  • The Timberwolves had a couple chances to level before the half with shots by Ben Campbell and Teddy Stacey forcing saves, but the score remained 1-0 at the break.
  • 11 minutes into the second half the Eagles were reduced to ten men after a red card was given to Alex Mapp. However, less than a minute later the Eagles were awarded a penalty kick.  John Duldner converted from the spot to make the score 2-0.
  • Over the ensuing 32 minutes the Timberwolves outshot the Eagles 12-2, forcing five saves and tallying five corner kicks over the span, but were unable to find the back of the net and the match ended 2-0 in favor of the Eagles.

  • This was Northwood's first loss to the Eagles since a 2-1 defeat at Ashland in double-overtime on September 21, 2012. The Timberwolves lead the all-time series 13-10-3.

UP NEXT

  • Northwood will return home on Sunday (September 7th) to face off with current GLIAC leaders UW-Parkside for a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.  The Timberwolves fell 2-1 in overtime in the teams' first matchup this season.
