Nino Evola's Late Winner Gives TImberwolves 2-1 Victory at Davenport

RECAPNino Evola's late winner gave the Timberwolves a 2-1 victory as they clinched a spot in the GLIAC post-season tournament. 

 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS 

  • The Timberwolves got on the board early as just 15 minutes into the match Jack Doyle found himself at the end of a long pass by Andrew Behring and passed the ball into an empty net to make the score 1-0. 

  • Both teams settled into the match, and chances for the remainder of the half were limited as the 1-0 score line held into the midway break. 

  • Davenport put pressure on the Timberwolves early in the second half, forcing Cobin Cecchini into a pair of saves in the opening part of the half. 

  • The Panthers, playing for their season, found an equalizer in the 65th minute when Adis Guric buried a shot into the bottom left corner to level the score at 1-1. 

  • Just when the match looked like it was going to be heading into extra time, Teddy Stacey drove forward through the midfield before slipping a ball forward to Nino Evola who burried a shot into the left side-netting to give the Timberwolves the 86th minute winner. 

  • The guests were able to see out the final four minutes for the 2-1 victory.

NORTHWOOD NOTES 

  • With the win tonight, the Timberwolves clinch a spot in the GLIAC tournament.  Davenport, the defending GLIAC Tournament Champions, are eliminated from post-season contention. 

  • Northwood is currently tied for fourth in the conference with 13 points and two matches remaining.  The Timberwolves control their own destiny for seeding in the GLIAC tournament with matches against Purdue-Northwest (15 points) and Northern Michigan (13 points) remaining on the schedule.
