Men's Soccer Falls to Ashland in GLIAC Championship

RECAPA last minute goal in the first half turned the tides in favor of the Eagles before a pair of second half goals put the game out of reach. 

GAME HIGHLIGHTS 

  • After taking a few minutes to get settled into the match, the Timberwolves got their first quality chance in the 13th minute when Nino Evola forced Ashland goalkeeper Dimitrios Karousos into a save shortly after a Luke Neves corner. 

  • The Timberwolves had a couple good looks, but couldn't find frame for the remainder of the half. 

  • Just as teams looked to be headed into the break level, Ashland found its breakthrough as John Duldner found Haruki Kimura for the opening goal.  The 45th minute goal made the score 1-0 at the break. 

  • Northwood came out firing on all cylinders in the opening five minutes of the second period.  Twice the Timberwolves nearly leveled with balls played across the six yard box, but both times they were unable to get on the end of the balls. 

  • In the 50th minute, however, agains the run of play Ashland doubled its lead when Justin Libertowski snuck a shot past Corbin Cecchini that wnet off the post and in to make the score 2-0. 

  • Ashland would add one more to ice the game in the 66th minute Yasuke Yasumasu chipped an oncoming Cecchini on a counter attack to make the score 3-0.

  • With today's loss the Timberwolves conclude their season with a 9-9-1 record after finishing 4th in the GLIAC and defeating Northern Michigan and Saginaw Valley en route to an appearance in the GLIAC Tournament Championship game.
