Men's Tennis Places Three On All-GLIAC Teams

2017 All-GLIAC Men's Tennis Teams

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis team placed three student-athletes on the All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) teams, the league announced Sunday (April 23).

Senior Austin Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow) was named First Team All-GLIAC, as was freshman Kobus Sauerman (Albertinia, South Africa).  Francois Sauerman (Albertinia, South Africa) was named Honorable Mention.

It is second time Woody has earned First Team All-GLIAC honors and the third time he claimed All-Conference recognition in his career. This year, Woody has picked up 18 victories (10 singles, eight doubles) while playing from the No. 1 position in both singles and doubles. For his career, Woody has 94 victories (51 singles, 43 doubles) for the Timberwolves.

Kobus Sauerman stepped into the Northwood lineup in his first year and became a key player for the Timberwolves right away, picking 10 wins in singles and nine in doubles from primarily the No. 2 position.

Francois Sauerman picked up 10 wins in singles from the No. 3 slot and seven victories in doubles from the No. 2 position.

Northwood finished the regular season with an 11-11 record. The Timberwolves reached the finals of the GLIAC Tournament before falling 5-1 to No. 15 Ferris State.
