Track & Field Teams Compete At GVSU Big Meet
The Northwood University track and field teams competed at the GVSU Big Meet Friday and Saturday (February 8-9).
No team scoring was taken at the event, which was held at the Kelly Family Sports Center.
A pair of school record performances highlighted the action on Friday. Enock Rono clocked a NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark in the 800 meter run, running a 1:49.09. That time breaks the old school record by over two seconds, which was set by former NU All-American Josh Weber in 2004 (1:51.54). His time is also the best nationally in Division II this season
The other record was set by Madison Pines, who also earned a record in the 800. Her time of 2:13.30 broke her own school record in the event, which set set last season.
On Saturday, the women's distance medley team of Brittany Robichaud, Marsadie Cinato, Brittany O'Hora and Pines set a school record for the second straight week, clocking a 11:59.66 for an NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Their new school record is nearly 30 second than the initial school record they broke a week ago. Robichaud was also seventh in the in the mile out of 52 runners with a time of 5:13.10.
The men's team on Saturday was led by the 4X400 meter relay team of Jacob Hurrell, Travis Blunt, Doug Ladner and Rono, who earned an NCAA provisional and Northwood school-record time. They clocked a 3:14.08 to finish fourth out of 21 teams, beating out the record time of 3:15.42 the team had set the week before.
Northwood will compete at the Jack Skoog Open February 15.
