Track Teams Compete At The Hillsdale Tune Up

The Northwood University indoor track and field teams traveled to the Hillsdale Tune Up Saturday (February 22).

No team scoring was taken at the event, which featured athletes from Northwood, Lake Erie, Findlay, Tiffin, Hillsdale, Wayne State, and more at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center.

On the men's side, senior Korvon Harris (Detroit, Mich. / Northwestern) ran his best meet of the season, winning the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.94. Harris also earned a third place finish in the 200 meter dash clocking 22.40, which is just over the provisional qualifying mark.Rayvaun Tyler (Orlando, Fla. / Oak Ridge) finished fourth behind Harris in the 60 at 7.04.Marcus Rogers (Howell, Mich. / Pinckney) ran 4:21.08 in the mile for a fifth place finish. In the 60 meter hurdles, Kyle Vandersyde (Hopkins, Mich.) earned a sixth place finish at 8.85. Freshman Tyler Jensen (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) placed seventh in the 5K with a time of 16:13.61, while Brian Grecu (Ovid, Mich. / Ovid-Elsie) ran a 2:00.46 in the 800 meter to earn an eighth place finish. The men's 4x400 relay team – comprised of Jacob Hurrell (C adillac, Mich.), Enock Rono (Eldoret, Kenya / Universal), Jordan Fields (Lauderhill, Fla. / Blanche Ely) and Wally Clay (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Flint Southwestern) – finished third of 11 teams clocking 3:21.94.

For the women, Kaleigh Theriault (Kawkawlin, Mich. / Freeland) ran a 10.18 in the 60 meter hurdles. Chelsea Young (Remus, Mich. / Chippewa Hills) and Drew Findlay (Reese, Mich.) followed close behind. Freshman Jennifer McKenna (Orchard Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) competed in the mile and clocked a 5:30.51. Julia Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich. / Heritage) ran a 11:59.81 in the 3K.

Madison Pines (Troy, Mich.) traveled to the University of Michigan to compete against women from EMU, Michigan, and Wayne State. Pines earned a first place finish and provisionally qualified for nationals with a time of 4:57.60.

Northwood will travel back to Hillsdale next weekend to compete in the GLIAC Championship on March 1.
